F1 at Te Papa
Well we made it into the show and what can we say - it really is a fantastic set up at Te Papa. By far the star of the show for us were the 1990's McLaren and Renaults - pure, raw performance. These cars were the pinnacle of F1 I believe because they were fast in every sense of the word without the limiting modifications of today's F1 race cars (aerodynamics, engine performance / numbers, suspension and so on).
We ogled for hours at the changes (even over 2-3 years or 1 chassis) which contributed to superior performance. You could see, mechanically, the differences and how they mattered. You could see the early attempts at anti-sway bars and compare them to a chassis 2-3 years down the road and note the differences in geometry, positioning and size. You could see that even in the early years of F1 that most, if not all parts were hand made. You could see on the later cars that the small changes over time added up to (what seems to us these days) clear and logical design features. It is engineering and performance overload!
There are not too many events that we'd recommend people give up time to go and see, but we know that if you enjoy the technological show case that is the F1 as much as we do, then it is essential that you spend a little bit of money to come and see the exhibition. Pictures do not do these cars justice! »

5Zigen at MME Sepang
5Zigen have chosen to compete at the annual MME Sepang 24hr Endurance race in a race prepared Honda Civic FD2. In these two preview photos you can see the new Civic competing with the 5Zigen NSX. The MME Sepang 24hr race is a limited race format where only certain modifications from a factory specification chassis can be performed. J's Racing has competed at this event previously however they have had to take their race-specification chassis's back to OEM specification (particularly aerodynamic components) in order to compete. We will bring you more coverage as the event pans out! »
Port Rd Drags 2008
The 42nd Running of the Port Rd drags attracted a rather large crowd this year (perhaps it was for once the weather was good). The traditional V8 crew was there, but there was a lack luster attendance from the Japanese crew. Perhaps next year we will work towards getting a team together to attend! Anyhow, enjoy the select photos below. »

Japan Trip - Seeker
Upon our waltz around Tokyo we happened upon Seeker - a small Honda tuner near Kichijoji, Tokyo (Opposite side of Kichijoji from Blitz). Some of their hand crafted manifolds are some of the best we've seen! Enjoy the small selection of images below! »
Japan Trip - Spoon Sports
It was interesting to see the Spoon operation in person and also to speak to the team at Spoon including Ichishima San. Specifically keep an eye out for Turbo (yes, Turbo) goodies from Spoon and new NSX aerodynamic packages. Whilst we were there Spoon were toying with two NSX development cars as well as preparing their own and private race cars for the current Japanese racing seasons. Spoon were certainly the most McLaren-esk site we visited, super clean and very well laid out to show off their products!
